My Approach to Wine

I love wine. I love learning about wine. I love sharing my passion for wine and what I learn with others.

A question someone who drinks wine gets asked a lot is “What wine do you like?”. My answer is always the same, “The kind I drink”. I am not a sophisticated wine drinker with an educated palate. I’m a regular person, just drinking wine. If I taste something and if I like it yay! If I don’t, I won’t drink it. I think the same should apply to everyone. Drink what you like. There are no right or wrong answers. There is no special wine you have to like or not like to enjoy a glass of wine.

I’m not well practiced enough with my tasting to truly be able to distinguish the flavors or aromas in a specific wine. I’m trying to learn, but because I am not an expert, I will not share tasting notes or give in depth descriptions of the wines. One thing I do know about wine, wine tasting and my palate is that every time I decide I don’t like a certain grape or wine or region something comes along that changes my mind. Every. Single. Time.

I love tasting wine and I buy a lot more than I should, but I also love traveling so I very VERY rarely will buy a wine over $100. I also HATE paying for tastings, and I truly HATE paying a lot of money for a tasting. For that reason, I tend to avoid some of the more prestigious and/or expensive wineries. I’m happiest at $30-$50 per bottle in the US. In Europe (and especially Portugal), I’m very excited with 10-15 euro wines!
